Ft. Lauderdale, FL (May 21, 2012) – The South Florida City of Pembroke Pines has a healthy degree of civic pride and rightly so—it has won national awards such as “All-American City Award,” been recognized as one of the best places to live and twice ranked in Florida as the “best place to raise your kids.” Some day in the future, the Broward County city could also be known as the “Rocket Scientist” capital of the world.
Morris Southeast Group/CORFAC International Principal Ken Morris, SIOR, announced today that his firm has signed the Broward Charter School of Science and Technology, Inc. to a 10-year lease of a 24,246-square-foot building located at 1800 North Douglas Road, a two-story office property that is near the intersection of Taft Street in Pembroke Pines.
Morris, Koreena Rivers and Lois Paskow, RPA represented the landlord in securing the alternative-use tenant. The building is owned by CSG Building LLC and was formerly known as the Miller Legg Center. The newly formed K-12 Charter School is associated with Edfutures, Inc. (www.edfuturesinc.com) and has a sister school Burns Science Tech (www.burnsscitech.org).
Broward Charter School of Science & Technology (BCSTEM) utilizes Florida and National Standards in the teaching and learning of the Science, Technology Education, Engineering and Math (STEM) disciplines, in an innovative, integrated, collaborative, and applied fashion to a level of challenge sufficient for college and/or career readiness.
The four parts of STEM have been taught separately and most of the time independent from each other for years. Students are also taught traditional core classes such as English and history. By adopting the STEM philosophy Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics all play an integral part in the teaching of the whole. The science, engineering, and mathematics fields are made complete by the technology component that provides a creative and innovative way to problem solve and apply what has been learned.
